Most lotions I was familiar with did not hydrate and heal my skin as much as I needed.  At this point, I began searching for more effective solutions and was sold on the restorative properties of the Naturium Bio-lipid body lotion.  The fact that this lotion was formulated to enhance hydration while replenishing natural lipids in the skin motivated me to purchase it because that is exactly what my skin needed.  When I spotted ingredients like squalane , shea butter, linoleic acid, PCA, moringa oil, safflower oil, rose hip oil, and niacinamide on the INCI list, I was impressed. I knew this body lotion was not just your average product, and I was right. Every ingredient in this product was selected to deeply hydrate the skin and replenish the natural lipids that make up the skin barrier. Result Two weeks into using this product day and night, the itchiness I would feel was completely gone, also my skin was less flaky, and the dullness was revived.  The Naturium Bio-lipid Restoring body lotion has a thick, almost whipped texture, but absorbs very easily into the skin. With no greasiness, this lotion strikes the perfect balance between thick and nourishing. I also like the fact that it has little to no fragrance and is easily dispensable via the pump.  This lotion repaired my skin and protected it from further damage due to cold and dry winter air, and throughout the spring. In terms of longevity, the 414ml bottle lasted me 3.5 months despite using it 2x a day all over my body. I have been using their star moisturizer, The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA (hyaluronic acid) for quite a while now, and I will be sharing my experience with you guys. My Experience With the Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA Let's start with the texture of the product. This moisturizer is a medium-thick white cream. It is fragrance-free, so do not expect it to have any scent. Though it looked thick, I was impressed by how easily it melted once I rubbed it between my palms before applying it to my face. It felt light and was nongreasy. Although it has some stickiness after application. This moisturizer absorbs quickly into the skin and doesn’t feel warm on the skin, nor does it leave a film on the face. This is a great advantage. I love products that melt away easily and leave a subtle glow on the skin. I have used this product as my regular moisturizer, and I have been very satisfied with the result. My skin looks hydrated, and I don't experience the flakiness that is common with my skin type. I got a 100ml bottle in July 2021 and used it most mornings and nights. Then I began alternating with another moisturizer from Cerave, which I use as my night cream, and I still have a lot left of the NMF. This is by far the most long-lasting moisturizer I have ever tried. With this product, a little goes a long way; a peanut-sized amount of cream is all you need. In 2023, The Ordinary launched a couple of new moisturizers, which were more upgraded versions of their traditional moisturizer, Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA (NMF+ HA) . Specifically for dry skin, they launched the Natural Moisturizing Factors + Phytoceramides (aka NMF+ Phytoceramides), a formula supposed to deliver 4x more hydration than the former version. So I went ahead and tried it to see if it lives up to its claims. In today’s post, I will share with you my honest thoughts after using this moisturizer for over 3 months.   My Experience With The Natural Moisturizing Factors + Phytoceramides From The Ordinary I first got the NMF+ Phytoceramides when it originally launched during the winter of 2023, and honestly, the promises of hydration got me super excited. I was hoping it would be better than the NMF + HA , which I tried in 2019 but found to be too sticky and matte.  So, what changed? First, the addition of phytoceramides to this new moisturizer was a total yes for me. Ceramides are essential to maintaining the hydration levels in the skin and guarantee optimal skin barrier function. For dry skin , this sounds like heaven already. Also, this new formula contains more emollients and twice as many humectants, among which are PCA, sodium lactate, and urea, in addition to hyaluronic acid .  As expected, The Ordinary NMF + Phytoceramides was a complete banger on my skin. It left my skin much more hydrated than the former version, was easier to apply, and left a dewy finish (which is what I love in my moisturizer), and kept my skin properly moisturized throughout the days during winter.   I reintroduced this moisturizer this winter without hesitation into my routine, as it did such a good job, and I will recommend this to all my dry skin girlies out there. It can equally be used during other seasons, as it isn’t too thick, but I mostly reach out for it during the colder months. My Pros and Cons I did not have any cons; however, here’s what I love the most about The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Phytoceramides: It packs a punch in terms of hydration and keeps the skin moisturized all day without needing reapplication.  It leaves the skin subtle and has a natural, dewy finish.  The texture sits right between thick and lightweight and absorbs well into the skin without leaving the skin greasy or clogging your pores . Let's take a closer look at this amazing moisturizer. It has a nice, rich yet non-greasy texture that leaves a subtle glow.  Drawbacks The main drawback with this product is that, although considered affordable as opposed to other products from other brands that deliver similar results, it is more expensive than what the brand has accustomed its customers to. NMF+ HA (100ml) CAD 18.10 vs NMF + Phytoceramides CAD 26.50 . Also, it is not available in less than 100ml. Final Thoughts Overall, I will say The Ordinary did not disappoint with this moisturizer. It lives up to its claims and is a great product, especially for the cold months. I tried the Naturium Skin-renewing Retinol body lotion last winter in preparation for a summer glow-up, and the results were incredible. Retinol is often talked about for dealing with facial acne and anti-ageing, but it is also an incredible ingredient for getting rid of rough and bumpy skin on the body. Whether you are struggling with body acne, keratosis pilaris , discolouration, or have dehydrated skin, including a retinol-based body care product can drastically improve your skin texture. My Experience Using Naturium’s Skin Renewing Retinol Body Lotion My first experience with a retinol-based product was the Olay Retinol body wash , so I already had a basis for comparison when trying out this body lotion. I was expecting this product to get rid of my KP bumps, bacne, and flaky skin due to my naturally dry skin. I also looked forward to it clearing dark spots and discolouration from scarring, all this while properly hydrating and moisturizing my skin. The Naturium Skin-renewing Retinol body lotion promises to improve skin texture, unify skin tone, increase skin firmness, and guarantee soft and supple skin. It delivered on most of its claims and overall is a well-rounded product that is worth buying. It comes in a 234ml tube or a 414ml jumbo size that dispenses a rich fragrance-free cream that spreads easily on the skin.  It is formulated with encapsulated retinol that guarantees the efficacy of the molecule over time with less risk of irritation , allantoin to soothe, and shea butter to nourish the skin. Results The most outstanding change was how it efficiently got rid of my KP bumps after 3 – 4 weeks of use. I also paired it on some days with the Naturium The Smoother Glycolic Acid Exfoliating Body Wash . I applied this lotion every night after my shower on dry skin, and by week 2, my skin was less flaky, smoother, and less itchy. It also improved my skin tone by brightening the discolouration on my legs due to KP flare-ups, but was less effective on my bacne, which was surprising. My legs tend to flake easily when not properly hydrated, and the Skin-Renewing body lotion also smoothens that.  However, it did not do much for discolouration from older wounds. It brightened my skin overall and smoothed bumps on my skin. Note that this body is strictly to be used on the body and not on the face, as it has the potential to irritate the skin. Make sure to thoroughly wash your hands with soap for at least 60 seconds before touching your face. Trust me, I made this mistake, and my face felt like it was on fire until I rinsed off the product completely. Also, because retinol increases cell turnover rate, younger and brighter skin tends to be more prone to discolouration due to UV exposure. That being said, concerning the products we compared above, here is how a few of these products performed on my skin; The Good Molecules Hyaluronic Serum and The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 improve the skin’s plumpness and hydration after a few days of use. While I consider the Good Molecules Discoloration Serum to be a good product, it took more time (2 months) to improve my skin tone than The Ordinary Azelaic Acid 15% Suspension (4 weeks). The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner was too harsh and irritated my skin so much that I didn’t use it more than 3 times. I definitely will not recommend this toner if your skin is sensitive. The Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner is also a good product, but in my experience, using it on its own delivered lesser results than when combined with the Discoloration Correcting Serum. Is SPF 50 Too Much For Sensitive Skin?  SPF or sun protection factor is a value that informs how long a sunscreen is likely to protect your skin when used correctly. This value is quite difficult to calculate however simply put it how long a sunscreen will provide UVB protection before you are likely to experience sunburn.  Say without SPF your sun is likely to burn after 15 minutes of exposure, a sunscreen with an SPF value of 30 will extend this 30 times over (450 mins). Meaning it will take 7 hours for your skin to burn. This does not mean one sunscreen SPF 30 application automatically provides 7 hours of protection. If you factor in the amount of sunscreen you apply, sweat, and water, the time frame may be less which is why reapplication is essential for a good shield. The SPF value of your sunscreen does not impact its effect on your skin in terms of irritation. Again, it just denotes the possible time range of UV protection. As such, any SPF value is safe for sensitive skin.  The only thing to note is that a higher SPF value denotes a higher degree of sun protection. SPF 15 blocks about 93% of UVB rays, SPF 30 blocks 97%, and SPF 50 blocks 98%.
